Expo Machines

The Math Fair was this week at the school.

Bebe entered again this year with a Disney-themed project for the 3-5 division and the boys entered a recycling-themed project together for the K-2 division.

Bebe's project basically told you how long you would have to wait in line to ride all of the rides and meet the characters in the four major parks in Disney World.  The answer...a little over 1300 minutes or 23 hours!

Sumner and Sawyer took apart our old washing machine...literally...and sorted the parts into plastic, metal, rubber, and wiring.  Then they weighed themselves holding the pieces, subtracted their weight to find the weight of the pieces of the washer.  Then they found out what they could recycle and added the weight of the pieces they could take to the recycling center.  The total weight was 149 lbs. and they could recycle 144 lbs.  That left 5 lbs that could not be recycled.

I got an email this morning.  Bebe won 3rd place for her division.  It'll be bittersweet...she wanted first, but I know she's happy she placed.  The boys won 1st for their division.  I'm sure they'll be so excited when they get home!  The email from one of the teachers said..."You guys are expo machines!"  Ha ha

*The funny thing is...and not to sound bad, but we decided so late to do the projects that we literally put the boards together the night before and did not even practice presentations with the kids!  I guess their experience with the fair helped out! tee hee
