They are really enjoying themselves. And I'm really enjoying watching them. It's like a real game, no lame bat around anymore, and regular rules apply. However, each batter does get 6 swings. If you miss all 6 you are out.
Sumner is playing catcher and he loves it. He loves putting on the gear and throwing the ball back to the "pitcher" (ie his teammate beside the pitching machine and ump). He does not love; however, getting too close to the batter. He likes to crouch down about 7 feet behind the batter up next to the fence! ha ha
He's still getting use to it! He got a hit and on base the first game, but has hit a serious dry spell ever since. He's a little down about it. It's been hard to get him to keep trying with a positive attitude.
Another reason it's been a bit hard to take...the dry spell...is that his little brother, his FOUR YEAR OLD brother, who just turned 5, has starting getting hits and not only getting on base, but then getting to score by others batting him in. The whole crowd goes wild too because Saw is just SO STINKIN' CUTE out there! He's the littlest kid on the field, with baggy uniform, and looks like a li'l rascal! He's 3 years younger than most of the kids...he's in preschool for Heaven's sake! ha ha Well, needless to say, he's garnered a lot of cool points from his teammates and I think it's a little hard for Sumner to take! While Sawyer is soaking up the glory and nearly sprouting 3 chest hairs every time he hits, Sumner falls into a sad spot. It's not easy being upstaged by your squirt of a brother!
Anywhoo...besides the batting...they're both having a good time. They have a good team and good coaches (Daddy is one of them)! The moms on the team are all very nice and good fun to talk to in the stands. The girls are also having fun running around playing with friends. Good times!
The Little Rascal
Taking infield before the game...now that's focus!
