Valentine's Day & Anniversary Recap

School was cancelled on Friday, which was Valentine's Day, and at that point we still weren't really able to get out and about.  Luckily for my 4 munchkins...Momma planned ahead!

I pulled out our Valentine's decorations.  Not much, but just a few fun things...placemats, plastic heart "champagne" flutes, some dangly hearts hanging from the chandelier, and their Valentine bags that I'd made several years ago.  On Monday, whilst I scrambled all over the county (literally) looking for real winter gloves, I went ahead and grabbed some Valentine mini-cupcakes and holiday-themed Hershey kisses.  I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to get out by Friday and my hunch was correct!  Eight to nine inches of snow and there was nothing open even if I wanted to go out shopping for Valentine's gifts.  Even more impressive...I know, Ima genius...I had picked up some candies after Christmas to give to the kids and had tucked it away for heart day.

So on the big day the kids woke up to find some candies in their bags, a little homemade card, and cute little cupcakes for Valentine's Day.  Simple little treats and a whole lotta LOVE!

Two days later...the 16th, the dear husband and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary.  We both agree it feels more like 40!  ha ha  We actually think more of "the day we met" as our anniversary...July 4th.  So this is a special day, but only on paper.  We'd committed to being together nearly 4 1/2 years before that!  So this July it will really be 17 years.  Long time, people, looong time!  We don't do presents or cards or fancy dinners, but we did share some special smiles while enjoying our 4 kids and the things they say and do and all they bring to our life.  It was a good day of hanging out, and in all fairness, his mom and step-dad did treat us to dinner...just the 8 of us!  Perfect!
