The weather was cool, but not cold. The afternoon sun cast a golden glow over everything and lit up the yellows, oranges, and reds in the trees. We went over to our friends' house early to hang out, eat chili, pizza, subs, brownies, chips and dips, etc. Juice boxes for the kiddos and adult beverages for the uh...adults. It was 5:00 and we were already off to a great start!
Around 6:00 we rounded up the kids for pictures and set off for some serious trick-or-treating.

The neighborhood our friends live in is perfect for Halloween. The houses are close together, there are sidewalks, and almost all of the houses are decked out for the fun. People have set-ups in their garages, doorways, driveways, etc. just to hand out candy. It's very idyllic and lots of fun for the kids. I know I'm getting old, too, because I kept remarking to my friends how amazing were the colors of the trees. Or maybe it was the wine!
I know some people love to do a trunk-or-treat, but as long as there is traditional trick-or-treating...that's where my kids are gonna be! There's nothing like running from house to house in the cool, crisp air full of excitement and anticipation. Feeling your candy bag become more and more weighted down with sweet treats while night falls around you. The thrill of seeing great costumes, the hilarity of seeing friends dressed up, or even the chill of seeing the occasional scary costume worn by a "grown up" teenager.
The kids came back with a ton of loot! We let them run around and play for a bit, but then moved it inside the house and garage when a storm, lightning and thunder and heavy rain, moved in. Trick or treating was complete though so it didn't dampen our spirits.
After while we headed over to another couples' house for a quick visit. It has become sort of a tradition to visit this couple and chat for a bit. They love to see the kids dressed up and always spoil them with more candies. It's funny we might only see this couple once or twice a year, but it's always like we haven't missed a beat with them! Don't you love people like that?!
Hope you all had a Happy Halloween! Bring on Thanksgiving! I'm ready to hunker down at home for a bit and eat some serious comfort food!
