Day 6 & 7: Vacation Extravaganza

So we woke up on Day 6 with a bit of an overcast sky.  No worries...let's play tourists.

We headed straight for the Big Kahuna - Hatteras Lighthouse.  Since it wasn't a gorgeous day there weren't that many people there, and that worked out just great for us.  Lots of photo ops here, but oh sh*t!  I forgot my camera!  Ugh!  iphone to the rescue, even though they're not so great.

Five tickets purchased later, and one mega-lollipop to keep the Sass happy at ground level, we were climbing up the 257 some stairs.

Ain't she purty?  That's southern redneck for "Isn't it pretty?!"

Something very serene and majestic about them.

Top of the world!

The kids were yelling, "Take a picture of the lens!  Take a picture of the lens!"
So I did.  Greaaat.  You can't even see it in there.

If you look very, very carefully in the pavilion to the far right (middle of the pic)
you will see the slightest pink dot that closely resembles a teeny
blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl with a monster blue lollipop in one hand
and waving at her family with the other hand!

Below is the path that the lighthouse took when it was moved about 3000 feet away from
the beach to safer ground.  There's a sandy spot about mid-photo where the lighthouse originally sat.

After Hatteras we tooled around the town of Buxton stopping at a toy shop, a book shop, and knick-knack shop.  We stocked up on books to read and obligatory beach souvenir sweatshirts!  (Thanks Nana and PawPaw)

So Day 7 began lazily, as all vacation days should, and we rolled our hineys out to the beach and did a lot of playing in the sand and reading of new books!  I think these are the only 2 pictures I took of the whole day!

The Little Mermaid

Long day on the beach...napping before a supper of
plain ol', good ol', not much better than boiled shrimp and melted butter!
