Today while running errands we popped in to PetSmart to see the animals. It's like a quick field trip except it's quicker and FREE! You can see kitties, different kinds of birds, tons of fish, snakes, rodents, lizards, frogs, etc. Sometimes we get to see a few doggles, too!
Since our two first babies, our doggles Jax and Badin, passed a few years ago we've been pet-less. It's hard and I wish for the kids we had a pet. However, with 4 kids it is just something extra I don't need right now. Because who will be primarily responsible for it? Daddy (and Mommy). It is also expensive and a pet just doesn't fit into our budget.
That being said...it doesn't stop the kids from asking for a pet. Today it was Bebe asking for a guinea pig. "Please, pleeee-eeeezzz, can we have a guinea pig?"
"Please Momma", Sumner chimes in.
As usual I tell them sadly enough that right now is not a good time for us to have a pet. Plus, I totally do not like guinea pigs.
After a few more "pleases" from the big kids, I ask in Little Red Hen fashion...
"Who will give it water?" I will. I will. I will. Meee (that's Sass)!
"Who will give it food?" I will. I will. I will. Meee!
"Who will clean it's cage when it gets yucky?" I will. I will. I will. Meee!
Then I give them the ol' poop question..."Who will clean up the guinea pig poop?" I will says Bebe. I will says Sumner a little more reluctantly. Sawyer giggles and the Sass says nothing.
I said, "Are you sure you'll scoop up the poop and pee and clean out the cage?"
Bebe said, "Sure I guess."
I said, "Well, we'll think about it and talk to Daddy/"
Then I hear Sumner whisper under his breath, "Geez Bebe, I sure hope it's not gross. What if it has diarrhea?"
