An Update on the Greebles

What's a greeble?  I don't know for sure, but a friend of mine in Chapel Hill used to call kids "greebles".  I hope it doesn't have some horrid pretext that I don't know of because I always thought it was funny.  I haven't thought about that in FOREVER and it just popped in my head.

Bebe is hanging in there this summer.  She's endured Mommy being sick in early July, her brothers taking turns on the couch with high fevers, and Sawyer's trifecta surgery.  She's been doing a lot of spending the night away from home...mostly to keep her healthy and/or out of the way of those in recovery...with grandparents.  She did double duty with Papa and Jan, a night or two with Nana and PawPaw Mason, and a  night or two Meme and Sonny.  This last trip she was actually missing her momma a little.  We've had lots of good fun this summer and with 3 weeks left we still have things to do, but the boredom has set in a little for her.  She loves pretending and playing puppies.  She sets up all of her dog stuffed animals and make believes taking care of them and so forth.  Sumner is usually her cohort in these adventures.  She's been playing her DS and reading.  She's also been doing some clothes shopping.  She loves sparkle and most of the clothing items she has chosen have quite a bit of it.  Mommy has been trying to teach her a little more about choosing quality over flash.  Like choosing handsewn sequins and applique versus glitter glue and fabric paint!  I mean if you're gonna look like the 80's...let's try and save some face! ha ha  She also loves, loves watching tv & movies, so I have to limit that a bit.  The girl would watch it all day.  She loves the Disney channel, but I am a little careful with which shows she watches.  Her favorite is Good Luck, Charlie.

Sumner is growing like a weed.  He's skinny as a bean pole and has the longest little torso ever.  We just took him for his 5 year old check up and shots for Kindergarten.  He was great at the check up part and a screaming hot mess of insanity for his shots.  He was in the 95th percentile for his height.  Which is a little surprising...he was a little taller than his preschool classmates, but not by much.  He loves playing whatever his sister is playing and really has a hard time playing without her.  Therefore I am looking forward to school starting.  I think he needs another outlet for playtime with his peers.  We've had a couple of playdates, but he still wants to be included in her games or include her in his.  He loves swimming and driving the boat with his Daddy.  He's had some random fevers and headaches over the summer.  If he has an ear infection in his right ear we won't know.  Also, you don't know sometimes whether a kid this age is feigning illness just to stay up late or not.  (Not the fever part, but a headache, nausea, etc.) Regardless, since it is hard to gauge how to treat such randomness we're just watching him closely.  Sumner also loves to watch tv.  Of course, since Bebe is limited...so is he.  He loves to watch movies.  His favorites lately are Robin Hood (the original Disney version), Bolt, The Incredibles, & Bambi.

Sawyer is a mess...period.  I could end my sentence right there.  He's grown up so much lately.  He's lost his baby poochy tummy and really slimmed down.  His little legs have lengthened and thinned.  He's a happy-go-lucky guy who's along for the ride.  Literally, he goes along in the car, along for boat rides, and, of course, rides on his beloved tractor. He's recently had his tonsils, adenoids, and ear tubes done.  He was totally insane for about 5 days.  I mean happy as a lark and doing fantastic.  I mean the first thing after surgery and he asks for pretzels!  However, he's kind of waned a bit over the past 2 days.  I guess all of the trauma of surgery is catching up.  He is OVER eating soft foods and just wants cereal and pretzels.  Unfortunately, he's not a big fan of ice cream...he'll eat it, but not every day.  On top of that he scraped his knee on the sidewalk and just absolutely positively beyond a shadow of a doubt cannot walk on it.  He's got a band-aid on the majority of the scrape and walks with the knee pulled up and on his toes.  So he kind of step, limps, step, limps.  Bless his heart!  I am also looking forward to preschool starting for him next month.  I think being with kids his own age will do him some good.  Bebe and Sumner do let him join them in some play, but he's first man out when it's time to do big kid stuff.  Much to my dismay, he said he was 'not going to school' when I mentioned it the other day!  Oh my, total flashback to last year when he cried for the first few weeks at drop off.

Bitty Girl, the Sass, Sassy Girl...she is now in the autumn of her 21st month.  She talks up a storm, has quite a temper, and 'don't take nuthin' offa nobody'.  Her favorite words...No and noooooo!
The cutest thing she says...What does a donkey say and she very enthusiastically says...Heeee Hawww.

She's in to everything.  Wants to be included in whatever the big kids are doing.  She will throw a fit and lay down flat on her stomach and pout if she's not getting what she wants.  The kid can scream with a force that must come up from her bitty toes.  Quite piercing might I add.  I am having to do a lot of ignoring lately to get her to stop the behavior, but she apparently has a 'no quit' attitude.  Let's just hope that serves her more positively in the future.  She even sat in Time Out for the first time this week.  In essence, she's very headstrong, which makes sense because at her check up last week her head is in the 90th percentile.  She's average height and weight, but makes up for it her un-average nearly white hair that sweeps down into an incredible mullet of loveliness! ha ha
