Well, not that being sick wasn't fun enough, I've had loads and loads of laundry to clean up since then. When you've finally recovered from 4 days IN THE BED you want those sheets, pillows, comforter, etc. cleaned. That and the kids were running out of clothes to wear. When I got sick I was just about to do laundry, so add an extra 4 or 5 days and they were close to wearing Batman, Superman, and Cinderella to run errands. Anywhoo, it's been a whirlwind...
Saturday morning I wasn't feeling all that great, but I thought I'd shake it off. We were going to meet Jason's parents to go swimming around lunch, but I started to feel weak and hot. I lay down on the sofa for a quick rest, but soon told Jason I just couldn't go...too tired. I took my temp around 1 o'clock and it was in the 99's. By that evening Jason had taken the kids swimming and to eat and I was in the bed fever in the 100-101's with aching wrists and shoulders. We decided to keep the kids away from me as much as possible. I'm thinking 'oh crap, it's the flu.' I did not sleep all night.
Sunday was worse. My temp ranged from 102-103's. I was very achy and couldn't get comfortable. My kids went swimming again and played outside...staying away from mama. Jason's dad came up to help keep the kids busy. As evening rolled around my temp ranged from 103-104. My arms started tingling and fingertips going numb. I called my mother-in-law for help in figuring out what was going on and to prepare her to come keep the kids in case I went to the ER. My on-call physician said I should probably go to the ER, but could wait if I can see my doctor first thing in the morning. Bad news...Jason would have to take a day off of work. I did not sleep for a second night. I was tired and yet couldn't sleep. I had been up for 48 hours.
Monday I went to the doctor and took blood and chest x-rays. My temp was around 102. I got started on some basic meds that treat pneumonia due to the findings from the chest x-ray. The ibuprofen really kicked the aches and allowed me to relax. The worst part was seeing my kids walk through the room and me not being able to hold them or put them to bed. The Sass would bang on the door and go "Momma". and that would make me cry. I slept maybe a few hours so I was very exhausted.
Tuesday I still couldn't shake the temp and it hovered at 101. I was feeling much better due to meds, an inhaler, and some ibuprofen. However, I wanted to stay away from everyone until the fever was gone and it was VERY isolating. I would come out a couple of times and talk to the kids and try to smile. Jason took the kids BY HIMSELF to the local firework display they have on the 3rd and I missed them terribly and felt so left out. :(
Wednesday I was on the upswing and the fever was gone. I came out of the room a new, but tired woman. Literally, Independence Day...I found freedom. Freedom from my room! Four freakin' days in the bed and it was like I didn't even recognize my own house. You know the feeling you get when you've been away from your house for like a week or so and you come in and it seems different? Jason's parents took the kids to a movie and swimming, which really helped me ease into the day. We cooked out that evening and watched the fireworks that night by the lake.
The upside is...I'm totally caught up on the last 2 seasons of Deadliest Catch, the latest Duck Dynasty episodes, HGTV (has the whole channel moved to Canada?), and a few Pawn Stars and Storage Wars episodes. It was also a bad week to be sick in the late show category as most of the shows (Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon) were on vacation and running old shows.
Anyway, we're back in business...with a little rest during the day to help me out. So, I anticipate a few posts soon.
